How to start a new VJ-1638UH2/UR2 with UA31 inks

IMPORTANT:

In order for a VJ-1638UH2/UR2 to be able to be installed with UA31 inks the printer must be set in a specific "UA31" ink configuration.

When a VJ-1638UH2/UR2 printer is ordered at MUTOH Europe with the extra comment that it is for UA31 inks then this configuration set-up will be performed at MUTOH Europe premises prior to shipping the unit. 

In this case no extra actions need to be done before doing the initial ink load. 

However: If the printer was not yet configured for "UA31" set-up (stock unit or not ordered as such) then an extra action has to be done in order for the correct smart cards to be accepted.

Please follow the corresponding procedures below in order to correctly install our UA31 inks.

Required Items:

1. If needed: Firmware + MSA 5 tool (or higher)
   • VJ-1638UR2 V1.09 (or higher) for VJ-1682UR2
   • VJ-1638UH2 V1.15 (or higher) for VJ-1682UH2
     
     
2. Cleaning & Ink cartridges
   • UH22 220 ml cleaning cartridges for the printer start-up

   • UA31 1L maintenance cleaning bottle to carry out the daily maintenance: "VJ-UA31-CL1000E"
     
     

     Important Please make sure to order the correct mentioned maintenance liquid compatible and tested with UA31 inks. The VJ-ULVA1-ML500 is not suitable for this (compatibility only tested with US11, UH21, MS31 and MS41).

How to proceed when the printer is already in "UA31" set-up?

This is a normal printer start-up with UH22 cleaning cartridges and UA31 ink cartridges:

1. Boot the printer in user mode, enter the initial settings (language, IP address, activation, etc...).
2. Start the ink charge and perform initial cleaning with UH22 Cleaning cartridges.

3. Remove the cleanings and insert the UA31 ink cartridges.

4. Start an "Ink Charge" with the UA31 ink cartridges.

How to proceed when the printer is not yet in "UA31" set-up?

1. Perform a firmware update:
   • VJ-1638UR V108 (or higher) for VJ-1638UR (stock units)

   • VJ-1638UR2 V108 (or higher) for VJ-1682UR2

   • VJ-1638UH V1.15 (or higher) for VJ-1638UH (stock units) 

   • VJ-1638UH2 V1.15 (or higher) for VJ-1638UR
     
     

     WARNING If you do not use these firmware-versions (or higher) the boot up cycle of the printer with UA31 ink will fail!!

      

2. Retrieve the latest MPI file from the printer with the latest MSA tool.
3. Create a new ticket through our support-desk and send us the MPI file.
4. You will receive an ULK file, which will enable the UA31 smart-chip support on your VJ-1638UR/UR2/UH/UH2.
5. Install the ULK file on the printer with the latest MSA tool.
6. Boot the printer in user mode, enter the initial settings (language, IP address, activation, etc...).
7. Start the ink charge and perform initial cleaning with UH22 Cleaning cartridges.

8. Remove the cleanings and insert the UA31 ink cartridges.

9. Start an "Ink Charge" with the UA31 inks cartridges.
