How to switch a XPJ-1641SR/1682SR from UMS to MS41 inks

The following procedure describes all necessary steps how switch inks on an XpertJet XPJ-1641SR and XPJ-1682SR between UMS inks and MS41 inks. Please follow the steps below in order to correctly convert printers charged with UMS inks to MS41 inks.

 

Required items: 

  1. Firmware + MSA 5 tool (or higher)
  2. Spitting box absorbent for MS41 ink: “VJ16STG-FB-SO3”
  3. Cleaning & Ink for XpertJet

 

  • UMS 300 ml cleaning packs (UMS11-CL300E)

  • MS41 cleaning fluid to carry out the daily maintenance: VJ-ULVA1-ML500

 

 

Procedure: 


Part I – In self diagnosis mode:

  1. Perform a firmware update:
    • “XPJ1641SR_V102.JFL” (or higher) for XPJ1641SR
    • “XPJ1682SR_V103.JFL” (or higher) for XPJ1682SR
  2. Drain the waste-bottle completely empty
  3. Start the printer in Self Diagnosis Mode
  4. Perform a Longstore (> Adjustment >Longstore) using UMS11 cleaning and UMS11 smart chips.
  5. Follow the instructions on the panel: Insert Cleaning, Remove bags, Insert Cleaning, Remove bags.
  6. Once Longstore has finished, the panel will show a message "LONGSTORE". 
  7. Power Down the Printer.

Part II - In user mode

  1. Exchange the standard spitting box absorbent with a spitting box absorbent for UMS ink: “VJ16STG-FB-SO3”.
  2. To avoid any compatibility issues between maintenance parts, it's recommended to make a periodical maintenance (capping station + wiper assy + dampers) after completing the cleaning with MS41 cleaning.
  3. Drain the waste-bottle completely empty
  4. Boot the printer in User Mode.
  5. The display will show:

  6. Use MS41 Cleaning solution packs and MS41 300ml cleaning smart chips to perform the second wash cycle

  7. After the second wash cycle the display will show: "Wash Retry?" >> Choose: NO

  8. Insert the MS41 ink packs in the ink cases, install them in the printer and insert the MS41 smart chips to start the ink load.

  9. Start an "Ink Charge" with the MS41 inks.
