TIB 874: Countermeasures for uneven white ink density (XPJ-1462UF, XPJ-1682UR)

Dear Customer,


In white-ink printers (XPJ-1462UF / XPJ-1682UR), pigment can settle at the bottom of the ink bag if it is not agitated for a long time. During automatic ink circulation or cleaning (such as in sleep mode), this high-concentration ink may be drawn into the tubes, leading to inconsistent white ink density in print results.


Countermeasures (Depending on the machine’s serial number)


1. Firmware-Based Solution:

  • The Ink agitation sequence has been revised.

  • A new option has been added under Self-Diagnosis > Param > Update > Circulation: Type B.

  • This executes a mixing sequence to prevent pigment settling.

  • Impact: Longer wake-up time from sleep mode:

    • <24h without agitation: +2m30s

    • <72h without agitation: +5m00s

    • More than 72h without agitation: +7m30s

  • Firmware versions:

    • XPJ-1462UF: v1.08 or later

    • XPJ-1682UR: v1.01 or later



2. Hardware-Based Solution (Additional Solenoid Valve)

  • A solenoid valve is added to the white ink circulation path.

  • Purpose: Physically separates ink passages during circulation to prevent pigment from being pulled in.

  • A 3-way valve is used as a normally open 2-way valve (one port is sealed with a Luer lock and wrapped in acetate tape—do not remove the tape).

  • Firmware support:

    • XPJ-1462UF: v1.09 or later

    • XPJ-1682UR: v1.02 or later

  • Machines with this valve use Circulation Type C in Menu: Self-Diagnosis > Param > Update > Circulation.

Circulation Types (Self-Diagnosis Settings)

  • Type A: No solenoid valve, old firmware.

  • Type B: No solenoid valve, improved firmware.

  • Type C: With solenoid valve.

Note: Type A is not available for XPJ-1682UR(E), as all units were upgraded early to Type B.

  • XPJ-1462UF: No production records of older firmware

Hardware Countermeasure (Solenoid Valve):
