How to update firmware with the MSM (Mutoh Status Monitor) as end-user

Modified on Thu, 27 Aug, 2020 at 4:43 PM

It is common knowledge for technicians that printer firmware can be updated with the MSA (Mutoh Service Assistance) tool. However the MSA is only for technicians which have a personal account and is not meant to be used by end-users.

There is however a possibilty for end-users to easily update the firmware of their equipment themselves. This can be done with the MSM (Mutoh Status Monitor) software.

Requirements:

  • User account and serial number(s) must be properly registered on the Mutoh Club for End-Users (https://club.mutoh.co.jp/)
  • When registering the user, a serial number of the installed (which needs a firmware update) is required
  • If the user is already registered, additional printers can be registered after logging-in
  • Download the latest MSM (Mutoh Status Monitor) from the Mutoh Club for End-Users (login or serial number required)
  • MSM must be installed in Windows 10 (build 2004 or later)
  • MSM must be preferably installed on a ENGLISH language Windows 10 computer
  • MSM must be used on Windows 10 with Firewall and Antivirus disabled
  • If the firewall cannot be disabled, the installed executable file MSM.EXE must then be added to the firewall exceptions
