Necessary tools


In order to be able to install firmware, the following tools are required:

  • Personal computer with MS Windows
  • Network cable to connect the Valuejet wit the pc
  • The latest MSA-tool (Mutoh Service Assistance)
  • Make sure the latest heater firmware is up-to-date and installed first, before installing the mainboard-firmware


Detailed instructions how to install the firmware, are described in the maintenance manual.

  • Rip driven media cut (PM command *LY)
  • Improved ink sequence workflow in combination with cartridge pin detection.
  • Ink sequence recovery added. During ink sequence, when an error occurs (cover open or no cartridge etc.), the error cancellation will be performed 1) during ink suction (main suction or little suction) it proceeds the next sequence 2) during air suction or moving, the sequence is suspended. It restart the sequence from the beginning.  
  • During feeding to avoid sticking, the rear sensor monitor should not detect “media end”.
  • Possible printing of “#” during printing step adjust prints.

Bug fixes

  • Executing “print cancel” during media feed was not monitored. This is now fixed
  • Improved CR maintenance sequence.
  • Media end is not monitored during the printing of step adjust swaths. This problem is now fixed.
  • Possible communication problems (when working with MSA tool) at start-up are fixed.
  • Diagnostic:  Adjust:  Slant  check  result  value  is  displayed  incorrectly.  This  problem  is  now fixed.
  • In diagnostics mode, some unidir adjustment swaths were clipped. This problem is now fixed.
  • When using *MS command of PM, some panel settings are not functional. This problem is now fixed. When printing data with *MS command, the following problem occurs.
    • Print size becomes enlarged or reduced. (*)
    • Effect setting becomes not-functional when the user definition with *MS.
    • Ink drying time becomes 0 second.
    • When the vacuum fan setting is MIDDLE, it operates as LOW.
    • *However, this doesn't happen when *PQ command is in the print data.
  • There was a problem with the [Ink near end] and [Ink end] message display. This problem is now fixed.
  • Long length print problem fix. When sending 98M length print data, the printer hangs up. This problem is now fixed.

Changed features in diagnostics 1.02 ==> 1.03


  • Added the menu (Diagnostic : Parameter => Update => CR motor  Level 1 : Old motor, Level 2 : New motor)  
    By switching the CR motor, the motor control constant is also switching.  This is added in the diagnostic parameter print-out.
  • "Bi-D default changed
  • In diagnostic mode, after nozzle check, when executing Aging CR motor, unexpected media feed happens. This problem is now fixed.
  • In diagnostic mode, during the media initializing, when selecting the “cleaning menu”, the machine freezes. This problem is now fixed.


Changed features in diagnostics 1.03 ==> 1.04


  • When the take-up setting on the panel is set to Type1 and cancelling the Bi-D Print1 or Print2 in Diagnostic (Diagnostic: Adjust : Bi-D ), the Data receiving LED remained ON and the printer was not able to print. This problem is now fixed.


Bug fixes 1.02 ==> 1.03


  • The jetting wave form voltage limit process of the counter clockwise direction was missed out.  This problem is now fixed.
  • When pressing the panel key longer than 4 seconds, it executes multiple nozzle checks or cleanings. This problem is now fixed.
  • When using the old command under the following conditions, it gives a CPU error.
    • When the command is *PR4 (360x360), *PR5 (720x360), *PR13(1440x720), or *PR20(1440x1440), omit *IP and the panel setting is B1
    • When the command is *PR5 (720x360), select 1 pass in *IP.
    • When the command is *PR13 (1440x720), omit *IP, and the panel setting is B2.
    • When the command is *PR13 (1440x720), select 1 pass or 2 pass in *IP.
    • When the command is *PR12 (720x720), select 1 pass in *IP.
    • Omit *PR and when the panel setting is Q3/Q4/G1/G2, select 1 pass in *IP This problem is now fixed
  • Jetting wave form (VSD3d) problem =>fixed
  • When BtmInterlace is ON, the output print quality was not even. This problem is now fixed
  • When BtmInterlace is ON, ghost printing could appear in 1440x1440, Fine&Wave or Fine&Fuzz mode. This problem is now fixed.
  • This firmware includes a countermeasure for the head lock release after cover close.
  • During printing, when a certain ink is refilled, the printer executes an “air suction” sequence.  During this sequence, foam forming could occur in the cap.  This foam sticks to the head nozzles which causes a firing problem.  Now during printing, when the air suction sequence is executed, the air suction volume (amount) is increased to solve from ink foaming.
  • There used to be a full width size Q1 variable data printing problem. This is now solved.
  • CPU error countermeasure
  • During printing, and opening / closing the cover, the printhead goes to the cap in/out position.  While it goes to the cap in/out when the lever is up/down, the machine stays at the cap in and doesn't perform the media detection.This problem is now fixed.
  • With all printing modes except Q1, the following problem occurred
    • When setting the side margin value, the side margin remained 5 mm regardless of the set value.
    • No buzzer sounds when it's Ink near end or Ink end.
  • When Auto-Cleaning is set to OFF, the panel display could display a bug. This problem is now fixed.
  • When opening / closing the cover during a CR maintenance and waiting to finish it, the panel display remains “open”. This problem is now fixed.
  • When starting up the printer, and the media type is set to “cut sheet”, the printer does not detect the media front. This problem is now fixed.
  • Even after changing the head rank value, the original default had still the “*” mark. => fixed 
  • Manual feed problem => fixed
  • It used to occur that the panel keys did not work when opening / closing the front cover and the right maintenances cover. This problem is now fixed.
  • When loading a narrow width media, and the panel setting is Flushing: Media Flush ON, the print margin at the left side (not-origin side) is bigger. => fixed
  • After performing a Bi-D adjustment pattern print, it doesn't stop media feed. This problem is now fixed.
  • The head temperature reading is now fixed.
  • When it gives the media detection error and executes Panel menu : CR maintenance, the carriage moves to the maintenance position and without waiting for ENTER key input, it immediately caps in. => fixed
  • When the take-up system is set to “enabled”, and a Bi-D pattern is printed, it feeds media. This has been changed to: When setting the take-up system to “enabled” and a Bi-D pattern is printed, it doesn’t feed any media.
  • Improved “Waste tank full” sequence. When the machine displays “waste tank full / ink end” during cleaning, CR is left out as “cap-out” status.
    • Before the suction/ power flushing, if the error is already appeared, it will wait until all errors are cleared.
    • During suction when the waste tank full / ink end occurs, it will do the air suction and wait as “cap-in” status until error is cleared.
  • Under the following conditions, pushing cleaning button - Enter 2 seconds - doesn't start the cleaning sequence. (after this, Enter doesn't work)
    • During the mechanical initializing
    • During the media initializing
    • During “cover open”
    • During “lever up”

      When this happens, press Enter for 2 seconds to disable the cleaning.


Bug fixes 1.03 ==> 1.04


  • Media feeding fine adjustment => corrected
  • Effect overlapping problem countermeasure.  When effect is set (except None), during printing there was the possibility of a CPU error. This problem is now fixed
  • On the origin setting value input screen (X: 00000mm Y : 0000mm), when the lever is UP/ DOWN, problems occurred under the following 2 operations:
    • When going back to the previous screen with the Cancel key, even during the media detection (no media loaded), the value can be input via panel.  
      Countermeasure The value can't be input. (message "Action invalid” appear)
    • When going back to the previous screen with the Enter key, the message “Position check => Enter” appears at CR cap-out position.  
      Countermeasure: Since there is no media loaded at the operation 2, the origin position check will not be performed.
  • Feeding media after Bi-D pattern in User menu, and a media end occurs, the manual feed was not possible.This problem is now fixed.
  • When the origin setting (PF) is set to 15m and performing a position check, the feed direction becomes reversed.  Even after feeding, the machine freezes => after restart, it goes back to normal.  
    If one feed distance is too big, the internal variable overflows. (in case of VJ1304W, about 11.45m the overflow occurs)  
    If one feed distance is more than 5m, a processing which will divide per 5m and feed per 5m.
