Achieving a Linear Appearance with White Ink

Modified on Tue, 1 Apr, 2025 at 9:36 AM

Creating a visually linear white ink output in inkjet printing can be challenging, but is is certainly possible.

The approach involves printing the attached PDF on your chosen media. However, keep in mind that a visually linear white curve may appear differently depending on the substrate. For example, printing on black, red, or transparent backgrounds can produce noticeably different results.

The method is essentially iterative:

You print the attached file, evaluate the result visually, make adjustments, and reprint. This cycle is repeated until you’re satisfied with the smoothness and uniformity of the gradient. While effective, this process may require multiple test prints.

Tip: This method is much easier to manage when using fixed dot profiles. Creating a smooth gradient visually with a single dot size is significantly simpler than doing so with variable dot sizes, where multiple transitions can make it harder to fine-tune the appearance.
